The Eye of the Crystal Ball is now free

Hi Everybody!
A lot of new followers have joined my blog lately, so I would like to welcome them with a special offer. I have decided to put up my fantasy-novel The Eye of the Crystal Ball for free on Amazon, but it will only last five days - so hurry up and get it here:

The Eye of the Crystal Ball

Description:
When Sara was newborn her parents left her at the doorstep at Mr. and Mrs. Schneider’s house.
When Sara was ten she discovered she was telekinetic. She began to move stuff around when she got angry just by her will alone.
When Sara was twelve her real parents came for her and took her with them to live like the Gypsy that she was – or Romani as they like to call themselves. They told her she was going to fulfill a prophesy. That it was once said that out of the Romani people the greatest sorceress who had ever lived would be born.
When Sara was thirteen she had a baby brother and when she was fourteen he got very sick with a strange illness.
To save her baby-brother Sara sets off on a quest to find his cure – well knowing that it will cost her dearly.
Soon Sara finds herself going through the Singing Cave, crossing Wild Witches Valley, talking to a ten foot giant snail, rescuing the Beads of Souls from the Hell-hounds, escaping a spell in Vamila, the Forest of Vanity, visiting the king at the City of Lights before she finally reaches the Black Castle where she is told the Eye of the Crystal Ball can tell her how to cure her brother’s strange illness.

But nothing is free in this world - and as Sara soon will know - everything has a price.

Beyond is now for free!

Hi Everybody.
My husband is doing much better - he had surgery on his only eye left and now he has a 20/20 vision. That means he has perfect sight on that one eye and can live life normally again. So that is great news for my little family and since I am in a fantastic mood these days I thought my readers should have a gift as well. So I have decided to lower the price on the first book in my Afterlife-series to... nothing! The offer will only stand in five days so hurry up and get the it!
Beyond for free!

If you enjoy it, then don't forget to get the rest in the series, Serenity and Endurance as well :-)
Thanks to everybody for all your sweet mails and prayers for us - we are better now and getting back to our daily routine. My husband still can't work for a couple of months and as a freelancer that means no pay either, so we still need to figure out that part of the situation as well.
But for now I am just happy and enjoying life tremendously.
Take care,
Therese

Some good and bad New Years news.

First the bad news. I guess most people like it that way because then we don't have to fear the bad news while we listen to the good news, right? Why is it like that anyway? I mean why don't we wonder about the good news while we listen to the bad ones?
Anyway - here is the bad news. The new year started a little rough for me and my family. New Years Eve while we were still in Denmark on our Christmas-vacation my husband was in an accident with some fireworks. Somehow a box of rockets tipped over and started shooting at him and the kids even though they were in what you would assume was a safe distance. Luckily the kids didn't get hurt, but my husband was hit and lost his right eye later in the hospital. After examining the fireworks battery we later found out that something was very wrong with it and that it had shot small metal bullets out of the sides.
What happened was quite a shock for all of us, I am still shaking just by writing about it. Now we are back and are trying to get back to our regular life here in Florida. My husband is doing well and has been a huge inspiration to me as well as many others with his good mood through this tough week. He has been this extremely cool guy telling everybody else that he is doing fine and that he is just happy that none of the kids got hurt. That is really something. I have to say he is my hero and I want to be just like him when I grow up. I can't believe he has not felt sorry for himself - not even once during all of this.
Meanwhile I am playing nurse for him and we are trying to get some money from insurance companies and maybe some sort of compensation from the company that sold the fireworks, but that is not very easy in a country like Denmark where the big companies are better protected by the law than the consumer. Again a huge difference between the States and Europe.
But all of that means that the third book in my Afterlife-series has been delayed a bit and we haven't had the chance to put it up for sale until now. And now we get to the good news.Yesterday we finished the editing and formatting of Endurance and sent it to Amazon and this morning it was out! I am very pleased and excited about this one, and I think it is the best in the series.
I have recieved a lot of e-mails from people that loved the first book Beyond and I am so grateful for all your response. Thank you. I hope everyone will enjoy the rest of the series just as much and I hope you will tell all of your friends about the books as well as everyone you have ever known and friended on Facebook or followed on Twitter. I am trying hard to get the word out there about my books, so if you can in any way help me, either by talking about it on your blog, posting reviews or anything else I would be truly grateful.
Thanks a lot to all of you who have already helped me so much!

Therese

Happy Thanksgiving

I might as well come clean right away. I love Thanksgiving. It has to be the best holiday ever invented. There are no presents or stress about buying them. It is not about what I am going to get, it is all about being thankful - so what's not to love about that?
We don't have Thanksgiving in Denmark where I am from, it is a very American holiday, and even though I had heard a lot about it before I came here, it was really something to move here and experience it for the first time. I have on several occasions tried to explain the spirit of thanksgiving to my friends in Denmark, but it is really hard, and I don't think I have succeeded yet and I have a feeling that I know why. Or at least a part of the reason. It is simply not in our culture to be thankful, like it is in yours. We are not brought up to be grateful in the same way that you are. That is just not something that we teach our kids. And I think that is too bad. To put it a little harsh, then we are a very spoiled nation that believe that it is our right to have what we do have. We wear designer clothes and decorate our homes with expensive furnitures and stuff that in my opinion have no value - and we think it will make us happy.
Yesterday I saw a documentary called "America-The story of us" and even though I had learned a lot about American history in school, I have to admit that there is as lot I had forgotten and some I had never heard before. But basically it told me that America was founded on tobaccoplants and that Thanksgiving was originally a feast where the remaining settlers from the Mayflower celebrated with a native American tribe that they had just killed another rival tribe.
That was pretty amusing to me and somewhat barbaric. I have no idea how it got from that to what it is today, but I love the idea of having a holiday to celebrate what we are thankful for. It has been really good for me to experience that, and I would wish that it was a holiday that was celebrated all over the world. Maybe the world would be a better place, at least for one day.
I know I have a lot that I take for granted that I need to remember to be thankful for. I will try to do that while I eat a big stuffed turkey with some of our American friends that have invited us to join them this year. I am really looking forward to that.
What do you have to be thankful for? Comments are welcome :-)
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Cover release for my upcoming novel Endurance

Here is the cover for my upcoming novel Endurance. It is the third book in my Afterlife-series. I am currently working on finishing it and then it goes off to my editor. I really hope to have it out before Christmas.
Until then check out the cover, I think it is the best one yet:

The Academy is now Beyond!

So I did something today you are never supposed to do in the publishing world. And you might think I am insane for doing it, but I did it anyway.
I changed the title of my book The Academy. Now it is called Beyond. I never felt good about that title and it irritated me because I really wanted book 2 to be named Serenity and book three is going to be Endurance, so the first book in the series was going to stand out and didn't match the other titles at all. So here is the new cover!
Anyway I hope I am not confusing too many, but now it is done and here is a list of the books in my Afterlife-series:

Beyond is the first book
Serenity is the second
Endurance is going to be the third (hopefully in dec, but if not then in Jan 2012)
I am planning  a lot more books in the series, but I don't have names for them yet. I hope I won't have to change any more titles though, cause that is really difficult lol.

A legal alien in the states

Hi there
First of all I would like to share a thing with you. Someone wrote a blog recently and it made me extremely happy. The blogger had recently read my book and in the blog she tells how it made her think about life and death. That is a great compliment to get as a writer. So I thought I would share this with you.

Eve's fangarden

Second of all I have been thinking a lot lately. I have been looking for topics to share on this blog, because everybody says that it is important to have a blog, when you are a writer and it is even more important that it is different than all the other blogs out there.

So standing in the line in Walmart today it suddenly occured to me. I am different than all the other writers out there because I am a legal alien. I have only lived in the states for two years. As many of you know I am from Denmark and living here in Florida is very different than living in Denmark in some ways and in others it is not that different. But I really think this country is awesome. I love living here, and I thought I would write about that. How great it is to live here! And I thought that maybe there would be a nice sideeffect to it - maybe it would make you appreciate your country more, cause it is really nice over here. I mean some things are just weird, but you have a way of making everything very easy for yourself. Living is easy over here.

Take for example grocery-shopping. That is one of the first things you notice when you come here as a European. There are extremely many choices. The first couple of times I went to a Publix or Walmart I got almost paralyzed. I would stand for a very long time just staring at all the cereal boxes not knowing what to pick. The choices were just too many! But it is also really nice - once you have a figured a way through the jungle and tried a few brands and found those you like.
And it is so cheap. In Scandinavia and especially in Denmark we have taxes on everything. That makes our food extremely expensive. Latest they have figured out that they needed a tax on fat! Yes you heard me, in Denmark they have put extra taxes on food that contains fat to make them more expensive than healthier food. It is their plan to make people eat healthier that way. I have no idea if it will work or not, but I do not like the fact that we have a society where the government controls what I eat. Plus, we are planning on going home for christmas. I can only imagine how expensive it is going to be. If there is anything in the food you eat for Christmas, it is fat!
Anyway back to the nice big supermarkets in the states where you do not always bump into someone with your cart, because there is actually room to move on and you do not have to wait in line for twenty minutes when you want to pay for it. There is a lot of nice things to be said about your supermarkets, but one thing is really worth mentioning. The thing I enjoy the most. When you check out you do not have to pack your own bags!! That is amazing. You have no idea how stressful it can be to pack your own bags in a Danish supermarket. And if you are not fast enough the cashier will start letting other people's groceries come your way too on the moving belt, and then you have to hurry up and seperate them from each other and hope that your eggs or your bread will not get crushed. Because if they do, it is your own fault, since you have already paid for the groceries and you were just too slow.
And don't even get me started on the service there. It is horrible, but I will leave that for another blog. Anyway, that was just what I wanted to share with you today. Have a great day.

Therese

Guestpost by Sheila Deeth

Today I have the pleasure of introducing  author Sheila Deeth. She writes about the inspiration for her latest novel Flower Child.

About Flower Child: When Megan miscarries her first pregnancy it feels like the end of everything; instead it’s the start of a curious relationship between the grieving mother and an unborn child who hovers somewhere between ghost and angel. Angela, Megan’s “little angel,” has character and dreams all her own, friends who may or may not be real angels, and a little brother who brings hope to her mother’s world. But Angela’s dream-world has a secret and one day Angela might learn how to be real.
Where to find Flower Child: http://gypsyshadow.com/SheilaDeeth.html#Flower

Where does inspiration come from? A friend of mine says we create it ourselves by splitting ideas and looking for strange connections. Flower Child started with two words from a song—not surprisingly, children and flowers. Threaded between them was a memory of my mother telling me babies grow from seeds; my imagination furnished heavenly flower-filled fields with guardian angels. But that was just the beginning of the tale.
I wrote what I remembered and a character called Megan popped up in my subconscious. Okay Megan, so why are you thinking about babies growing in fields now you’re all grown up? “Because I think it’s true.”
And now I had two ideas again. Why would a mother think children grow in heavenly fields, and what would it be like to be such a child. The connection was quickly furnished by Megan; the babe in question was lost to miscarriage—which reminded me of my own miscarriage and got me talking to Megan in my head again. “But talk to Angela,” says she.
“Who’s Angela?”
Megan’s unborn daughter was quite determined to tell me lots about herself but already I was stuck between two ideas again. Is an unborn child an angel guarding other baby-seeds, or is she a ghost? While I tried to connect those two dots I remembered reading that angels don’t have free will. So how do they fall? Free will and growing up (Angela was growing fast in my imagination) led to thoughts of love. Who does Angela love? And can angels love?
Megan and Angela filled my head with ideas, telling their stories, answering my questions, and gradually leading me up that garden path to the end of their tale. I kind of liked what Megan thought she’d learned when the story was done so I wrote it down, but you’ll have to read the ebook to find out.
Thank you for making me so welcome on your blog Therese. I loved reading the about where you found inspiration for your novel, The Eye of the Crystal Ball—especially where you mentioned flying, as I used to imagine I could fly as a child. I even imagined I had done and touched the ceiling somewhere over the stairs.

About the author: Sheila Deeth grew up in the UK and has a Bachelors and Masters in mathematics from Cambridge University, England. Now living in the States with her husband and sons, she enjoys reading, writing, drawing, telling stories, running a local writers' group, and meeting her neighbors’ dogs on the green.

Working hard!

So I am really working hard these days to get my next novel finished and I am planning on publishing it some time next week. I am really looking forward to getting it out there to all my readers.
Like The Eye of the Crystal ball it is a fantasy-novel but this time the main character is older and there is more romance in it.
The story is about a girl that wakes up to find that she is dead and on her way to a school where we all go when we leave this earth...
The series is called "Afterlife" and the title for the first book is "The Academy".

I am not saying any more, other than it is going to be great!
Until then, you can always enjoy The Eye of The Crystal Ball and One Two ... He is coming for you.

What just happened?

I have no idea what just happened to me. I began writing a sequel to my mystery novel and then ended up with a fantasy-novel instead.
How did that happen, you might ask ... well I guess you are not always in control when you write. I sure am not. Sometimes my characters just begin to do stuff ... and sometimes the story just want to go in another direction.
So now I am a Y/A fantasy-writer as well. The book is called "The Eye of the Crystal Ball" and will be out one of these days. I am very thrilled about it!
So thrilled I just started another fantasy-novel. Now we just have to wait and see where this one goes. To be totally honest it is somewhat of a secret dream come true to me. I have always loved fantasy and read tons of it. I have a pretty wild imagination, so now I keep thinking: Why haven't I thought about this before?
Anyway the new book is called "The Eye of the Crystal Ball" and is now available on Amazon.com, Smashwords, Barnes and Nobles, etc.
